Laura Mulvey

The Male Gaze-

The male gaze is the concept of how an audience perceives the person being viewed. The way men view women. The way women view other women and the way woman look at themselves.

Laura Mulvey came up with the male gaze in 1975. She believed that the audience are forced to view everything from the perspective of the heterosexual man.

The movement, angle and perspective of the camera usually follows the curves of the female body.

In this music video the camera focuses on Nicki Minaj as she is hardly wearing any clothes. Not only are we forced to look at her, the male actors in the video also stare at her. "The male gaze" is very present in this music video. Also with all the other women looking like her it paints an image to the audience that all women should look like this to be desirable.

This music video also represents the male gaze. With all the women being half naked and the camera being at angles that sexualise the women in this video.
