Functions of a Music Video

The Functions of a Music Video:

A music video is the visual representation of a song. It is a way for an artist to promote their single/song.

There are also other reasons for music videos to be made:

Ø  To portray the real meaning of what the song is trying to say. (tell a story)

Ø  To attract a wider audience e.g.: most people first hear of a song after they have watched the music video on YouTube or on television.

Ø  Sometimes music videos promote movies e.g. Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth See you again promotes the movie Fast 7.

Ø  By promoting the song, it will most likely lead to an increase in sales which will make the song successful.

Ø  Promotes an album.

Music videos promote usually by having an interesting storyline or just an interesting video that keeps the viewer engaged throughout the whole video. Sometimes they have starring guests in music videos which will attract more people to watch it. Sometimes they just have the artist performing the song during a concert which will entice the viewer to want to purchase tickets to watch the artist live because of the way the music video portrays the performance.
